About Clark Atlanta University

Clark Atlanta University, in Atlanta, Georgia was formed in 1988 by the consolidation of two historically black colleges: Atlanta University (founded in 1865), which offered only graduate degrees, and Clark College (founded in 1869), a four-year liberal arts college. From the beginning, the school has been affiliated with the United Baptist Church.

Clark Atlanta University offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in four different areas: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Social Work. The university's focus areas--teaching, service, and research--are all intended to help students create an American and global society that is responsive to human needs. The historically black college is classified as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 2000, and has recently been mentioned by U.S. News and World Report and Black Enterprise magazine.
