About Lawson State Community College

Lawson State Community College is a public historically black college located on two campuses in Bessemer and Birmingham, Alabama. Bessemer is a suburb of Birmingham. The cities are in the north central part of the state. Living in or near Birmingham might have special emotional resonance for black students because the city was at the epicenter of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Today, Birmingham is a major cultural center, home to two ballet companies, a symphony orchestra, an art museum, and a science center.

Lawson State Community College offers two-year associate degrees in Business Technologies, Career and Technical Studies, Health Professions, and Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students at LSCC often continue on at four-year schools after earning their degrees.
