Omega Psi Phi Fraternity

Leadership is one of the most valued qualities in the Omega Psi Phi fraternity (OPP). Over the years, leaders in academia, science, medicine, technology, and entertainment have aligned themselves with the goals of Omega Psi Phi.

The History of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity

The Greek phrase "friendship is essential to the soul" formed the inspiration for Omega Psi Phi's story. In 1911, three Howard University undergraduate students aspired to create a group that upheld the values of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift.

From these roots, Omega Psi Phi grew through eras of social change and racial discrimination. OPP brothers were active participants in the sit-ins and other demonstrations of the sixties, and the fraternity focused its financial power on groups like the NAACP and the United Negro College Fund, which received its first $250,000 from Omega Psi Phi in 1981.
