About Edward Waters College

Edward Waters College was founded in 1866 with the goal of educating newly-freed slaves. Located in Jacksonville, it is the oldest historically black college as well as the oldest private college in Florida. Edward Waters is affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The school's location--close to downtown Jacksonville, which is the largest city in Florida ensures that students are steps away from cultural events like the monthly ArtWalks and the annual Jazz Festival. The city is also home to the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.
