The birthplace of Martin Luther King, Alice Walker, and Spike Lee, Georgia has a lot to offer black college students culturally. Atlanta alone, a city with an African-American population that makes up approximately sixty percent of the city, has five respected historically black colleges: Clark Atlanta University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, and Spelman College. The Georgia state college system, where students pay reduced tuition, includes three other historically black colleges: Albany State College, Fort Valley State College, and Savannah State University.Georgia's larger cities, many of which are growing regional hubs, may provide black college students with opportunities in medical research, media, business, arts, and a growing regional music industry.
