About Albany State University

Albany State University, located in Albany, Georgia is a historically black college founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institution. The institution's original purpose was to provide industrial training and religious education to black students. In 1943 the school became a four-year teacher college, and in 1996, became Albany State University.

Today the school continues to fulfill its mission to educate black youth but also serves a diverse student population. Albany State University offers students a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, and specialist degrees in the colleges of Arts and Humanities, Business, Education, and Science and Health Professions. Students at this historically black college can participate in men's and women's sports and choose from numerous university organizations. Albany State University also sponsors the Center for the African-American Male, which works to increase opportunities for success for black men between 18 and 25.
