Founded in 1915, Xavier University of Louisiana is the only historically black college in the United States affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. Created to foster African-American Christian leadership, Xavier University has since grown to encompass a wide array of degree programs grounded in a core liberal arts curriculum. In recent years, Xavier University has gained a national reputation as a leader in science education for African-Americans, graduating more physics and biology baccalaureates than any other U.S. institution.
