About BARBER-SCOTIA COLLEGE

Barber-Scotia College, a historically black college, is located in Concord, North Carolina, 30 miles northeast of Charlotte. Founded in 1967 as Scotia Seminary, this private coed school is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Scotia Seminary's purpose was to train black women to be teachers and social workers. In 1930, the school merged with Barber-Scotia Memorial College in Anniston, NC, and in 1932 it became Barber-Scotia College.

At this historically black college, students earn baccalaureate degrees in a number of fields, including the arts and sciences, communication, business, education, law, computer science and management information systems, medical technology, and hotel and restaurant management. Barber-Scotia College's mission is to help students develop intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually.
