Ohio Black Colleges and Universities
For an estimated 40,000 slaves, the path to freedom ran directly through Ohio, thanks to the Underground Railroad. Today, Ohio is home to A-list businesses like GE, Whirlpool, and Proctor & Gamble. Ohio's historically black colleges command tremendous respect, making them ideal places to launch your future. Both Wilberforce University and Central State University are in Wilberforce--hardly a sleepy little town. Hit the shops or out the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center by day, and indulge in friendly pubs and live music venues by night.
Nearby Dayton is the birthplace of aviation, as well as the birthplace of black writer and poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar. The tradition of aeronautical innovation is alive today in Wilberforce University's NASA collaboration.
