Pennsylvania Black Colleges and Universities

With its cool Philadelphia jazz scene and quaint covered bridges, Pennsylvania is a study in contrasts. Wherever your passions lie, this state is bound to have something for you. There is no shortage of historical sites, including the U.S. Brig Niagara. Art museums like the Barnes display national treasures. You can go caving or rafting or just sit back and enjoy a Pittsburgh Steelers' game.

Pennsylvania's African American heritage runs as deep as the Delaware River. The African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in Philadelphia, the second Negro Baseball League flourished in Pittsburgh, and Amish farms secreted away travelers on the Underground Railroad.

Philadelphia also has the oldest historically black college in the nation, the highly regarded Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania's rural Chester County is the home to Pennsylvania's other black college, Lincoln University.
