About FISK UNIVERSITY

Fisk University, originally called Fisk School, was founded in 1866, just six months after the Civil War ended. The first classes were held in former Union Army barracks. In 1930, Fisk become the first black college to receive accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Today, Fisk has a reputation as one of the preeminent historically black colleges in the United States. In fact, one in six black lawyers, doctors, and dentists currently in practice is a Fisk graduate.

Fisk University is located in Nashville, Tennessee, a vibrant community well known for its music scene. Fisk does its part to contribute with the Jubilee Singers, a group founded in 1871 to help get the school out of temporary financial straits and to share spiritual music with a wider audience.
