About LE MOYNE-OWEN COLLEGE

LeMoyne-Owen College is a private historically black college located in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is a large city at the extreme southwestern tip of the state. It is well-known for annual festivals including Memphis in May, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and the Cooper-Young Art Festival.

LeMoyne-Owen College was founded in 1862 as a school for freed and escaped slaves. The school was originally known as LeMoyne Normal and Commercial School and gained its current name after a merger with Owen Junior College in 1968. LOC is affiliated with the United Church of Christ. LOC offers bachelor's degrees in divisions including: business and economic development, education, arts and humanities, natural and mathematical sciences, and social and behavioral sciences.
