History
Texas College (TC) is a four-year, private, coed, liberal arts college affiliated with the Christian Methodist Church (CMC). It was founded in 1894 as a liberal arts college by a group of ministers from the former Colored Methodist Church (now CMC). TC became Phillip University in 1909, and in 1912 it returned to its original name, Texas College. From 1946 to 1966 the school operated a branch of Tyler Junior College on its campus.
TC is a liberal arts and teacher college that upholds its motto to provide light for its students so they can find their way. Its full range of educational and student-life programs encourages students to develop their full potential so they can be leaders in their careers and in service to the area, the state, and the nation.
The College is situated on 25 acres with 15 buildings, including a library, a computer center, and dormitories.
