Virginia Black Colleges and Universities

From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the shores of the Atlantic, with the Shenandoah Valley tucked between, there is a lot to love about Virginia. Your passion for art, culture and history can mingle comfortably with a deep interest in collegiate sports. Each year Virginia draws tens of thousands of students to its colleges.

Don't let the ivy-covered halls fool you. Virginia's historically black colleges earn awards and receive top rankings, but they are hardly stuffy. The Richmond area is home to Virginia Union University and Virginia State University, where you're just as likely to get schooled in Civil War history as you are drawn into its hip music scene. The Hampton Roads area, with Hampton University and Norfolk State University, is a beach lover's dream. If it's a quiet little college town you're after, be sure to check out St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville.
