About Hampton University

Hampton University is a private historically black college located in Hampton, Virginia. It was founded in 1868 during the Civil War Reconstruction. The campus is located right on the waterfront of the Hampton Roads harbor. Many of the buildings on campus are part of a National Historic Landmark District. The city of Hampton is medium-sized, and it is home to the Langley Air Force Base and the NASA Langley Research Center.

Hampton University offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs. Doctoral degrees are available in pharmacy, physical therapy, physics, and nursing. Hampton was the first historically black college to offer a PhD in nursing. Notable Hampton alumni include Booker T. Washington, the comedian Wanda Sykes, and the president of Oracle, Charles Phillips.
